Mr Briffa qualified MD in Malta and trained in plastic surgery in the UK. On returning to Malta, he expanded plastic surgery services within the Maltese NHS. He held the post of Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon for 20 years and was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta Medical School. He initiated the training programme in plastic surgery in Malta and was training co-ordinator for the specialty.

Since 2007, Mr Briffa has been the Maltese delegate to the PRAS Section of UEMS. He has been an examiner for EBOPRAS since 2011 and held the post of Secretary General of the Section and EBOPRAS between 2015 and 2018. In 2020 he took over as Chair of the EBOPRAS Examination Committee and is responsible for the organisation of the EBOPRAS examination. He is the Maltese delegate to ESPRAS.

Mr Briffa’s clinical interests include breast surgery, skin cancer and body contouring.
