Dr Tilney trained in Malta, the United Kingdom and Belgium; qualifying with Distinction in Medicine from the University of Malta, MRCP(UK) (1989), and MBA (Henley) in 2003 (on scholarship). Her main interests include cardiovascular disease and its prevention and quality of care improvement. She provides a Lipid Clinic service and has initiated participation in international collaborative research improving patient care, establishing a cohort of high risk Familial Hypercholesterolaemia with family and genetic studies enabling early, effective treatment.

She is educational supervisor for doctors in early and specialist medical training and examiner for MRCP(UK) PACES, University of Malta medical school and Faculty of Health Sciences, and expert reviewer for EU research panels. She has contributed to various national and international panels (University of Malta, Association of Physicians of Malta, Medical Association of Malta, Commonwealth Medical Association) and is International Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
