Executive Management
Following the birth of his sixth child Nicole with Down syndrome in 1992, he was instrumental in founding the Eden Foundation with the aim of educating more than 1,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Facilitators were introduced into the education system for the first time, and this helped children with a disability to integrate into mainstream schools. Job coaches were introduced and this helped youths with mental disabilities to join the workforce for the first time.
Dr Muscat gave up politics and endeavoured to expand his medical practice by first establishing the Saint James Hospital in Żabbar and then expanded the Group with clinics in Birkirkara, Burmarrad, Mosta, Żebbuġ and the island of Gozo. He also invested in other subsidiary companies also outside the medical field. In 2002 he acquired a state of the art hospital in Sliema, the Saint James Capua Hospital. His ambition to broaden his horizon led him to take the Saint James brand beyond the Maltese shores by opening a hospital in Libya and a dedicated Eye clinic in Hungary.
Dr Josie Muscat is married to Franca and is the father of six (6) children and grandfather of thirteen (13). He is a passionate reader.
