Frequently Asked Questions

What is the aim of the Gut Restore Programme?

The Gut Restore Programme takes a science-based approach to restoring and maintaining intestinal function (gut health). The programme focuses on maintaining the balance of gut microbiota to resolve intestinal inflammation and improving gut lining integrity, which helps prevent diseases and promotes overall health and wellness. Whether you have a specific health concern or just want to take proactive steps towards a healthier gut, the programme provides a comprehensive solution.

The process is roughly six months long. What is discussed during consultations?

There are various types of consultations by different professional areas namely gut health experts, nutritionist (exercise and nutrition scientist) and a functional medicine Practitioner.

  • A dietary profile is taken
  • Test results (microbiota test (stool test) and full lipid profile test) are explained
  • Assessment of overall health including results of associated tests
  • Recommendations for dietary interventions and supplementation
  • Follow ups for compliance assessment and dietary adjustments

What tests are required to start the gut restore programme?

An appointment can be booked or changed through any of the following channels:

  • A blood test (up to 3 months from date of consultation)
  • A finger prick blood sample (a few drops)
  • A fecal sample that is taken at home
  • Food diaries when required
  • Compliance to the recommendations
  • Attendance for the follow ups

Are there additional tests clients are to be aware of?

A small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test can be referred if and when deemed it is important. That being said, the client may be referred for other tests as the consultant/s may deem necessary. This is highly dependent on the individual.

Who is the Gut Restore Programme directed towards? Can any person do it?

The programme covers the following conditions, amongst others:

  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Gas/flatulence
  • Bloating
  • Joint pain
  • Mood swings
  • Weight gains
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Thyroid problems
  • Memory problems
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

The main cause of the majority of these conditions is intestinal inflammation.  However, everyone can enroll, also individuals that want to take proactive steps towards a healthier gut as a preventive measure. Patients under the care of gastroenterologists shall inform the experts so that the programme is offered as complementary to the treatment in liaision with the clinician.

Do I need to take medication?

No medication is prescribed. The interventions include omega-3 rich oils and specific food supplements on set protocols based on the test results of the individual.

What is omega 3?

Today we have a lot of clinical evidence about the importance of the level of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) to resolve chronic inflammation and prevent unhealthy conditions. There are various types of PUFAs including the groups known as omega-6 and omega-3. Nutrition and supplementation determine the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3. Unfortunately, today’s ingredients are pushing the PUFAs toward unhealthy ratios.
