Neville Azzopardi finished his university training at the University of Malta in 2005. He continued his basic and higher specialty training at Mater dei hospital and was put on the specialist accreditation committee as a gastroenterologist in 2014. His training included a 1 year training period in advanced endoscopy at the Istituto Mediterraneo per I Trapianti e Therapie ad Alta Specializzazione (ISMETT). He obtained a Master of Philosophy through the University of Malta in 2016. He lectures at the University of Malta and the Queen Mary University of London Hospital (Barts).
