I graduated in Medicine from the Royal University of Malta in 1969. After postgraduate training in the U.K. I returned to Malta and was appointed Lecturer at University and later Consultant Physician in the Department of Health. In 1978 went to Saudi Arabia where I worked in American run hospitals as Consultant in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. I returned to Malta in 1987 and resumed my career as Consultant Physician and later as Chairman of the Department of Medicine. I introduced Rheumatology at St. Luke’s Hospital and in the Medical Course at University in 1989, laying the foundation of a separate subspecialty unit. I was appointed Professor of Medicine at the University of Malta in 2000. I retired from Government service in 2007 and have been practising privately in Rheumatology since then.
