Chiara Modestini Iwanik is a podiatrist that graduated from the University of Malta with a degree in Bachelor of Science (Honours) Podiatry in 2016. In her final year of studies she undertook a dissertation entitled “The Effects of Minimalist Shoes on the General Endurance in Long-Distance Recreational Runners” which was published recently in 2022. Chiara gained experience in the public sector, however then went on to solely working in private practice.

Between 2019 – 2021 Chiara formed part of the ‘DRIFT’ project that focuses on the development of an innovative in-shoe system that provides early detection and prevention of foot complications in diabetics. A collaboration between the University of Malta (Department of Podiatry – University of Malta and Centre for Biomedical Cybernetics – University of Malta) and Mater Dei Hospital. As a Research Support Officer, Chiara along with her colleagues, published two research papers: ‘The influence of blood flow on skin surface temperature in the lower-limbs: A research article’ and won ‘Best Article of the Issue’. The other research paper was a systematic review entitled: ‘The effects of skin temperature on the integrity of skin tissue’.

Chiara has been providing podiatry services at St James Sliema for 6 years, including nail trimming, removal of calluses & corns, ingrown toe nail removal, treatment of nail & skin fungal infections, treatment of verrucas, footwear advice, biomechanical assessments, management of insoles and diabetic foot screening. She is dedicated, and takes pleasure working with people where her goal is to help them overcome lower limb problems.
