I graduated from the Malta Medical School in 1984 and started my postgraduate training at the Universities of Pavia, Italy and Gottingen and Hannover, Germany. I presented my research thesis in July 1991 and was appointed European Union Specialist in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. On returning to Malta, I started my specialist practice in both the public and private settings. In 1995 I was appointed Lecturer in Otolaryngology at the University of Malta Medical School, Consultant in Otolaryngology in St Luke’s Hospital, Malta in 1999, and Head of O.R.L. Services in 2003. I set up the Malta Cochlear Implant programme in 2009 and became its first Chairman. In 2010 I was the founder-member and first chairman of the Malta Institute for Medical Education which began offering advanced postgraduate international courses from Malta.
Over the years my main areas of interest were Head and Neck Cancer and Advanced Otology. However once the Cochlear Implant Programme was up and running I devoted most of my activity to Advanced Otology.
I retired from public service in 2023 and now focus my clinical activities out of private hospitals.
