Saint James Hospital has marked a historic milestone with a €3.2 million investment in the Intuitive Da Vinci XI robotic surgical system, the largest single investment in the Group’s history.

This advanced technology enhances surgical precision, reduces complications and supports faster patient recovery through minimally invasive techniques.

“This is the most sophisticated robotic system of its kind in the world,” said CEO Jean Claude Muscat. “Just as laparoscopy transformed open surgery, we believe robotic surgery represents the next major evolution in patient care.”

Advancing Precision and Recovery

The system features four robotic arms with 360-degree rotation and 3D visualisation, enabling surgeons to operate with enhanced accuracy while eliminating tremors.

Initially, the Hospital plans to perform up to 170 procedures in the first year across bariatric, gynaecological, urological and complex general surgeries, including oncology.

Chief Operations Officer Andrei Camenzuli noted:

“This investment reflects our long-term vision. We are committed to training our specialists so that robotic-assisted surgery becomes a new standard of care within our operating theatres.”

With this innovation, Saint James Hospital reinforces its mission to deliver high-quality healthcare backed by modern technology and highly skilled professionals.
